The serial version of the Tesla Cybertruck pickup may lose door handles

The community of car owners cannot yet get away from the shock caused by Tesla’s decision to abandon the drive mode selector and paddle shifters in the new generation of Model S and Model X electric vehicles. The company is already intriguing with a new statement. The serial version of the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup truck will have no door handles.

It seems that the global auto industry is starting to fight everything that sticks out and stands out. Sleek washers are replacing traditional electronic shift levers, and cars on the outside are beginning to ditch protruding elements to improve aerodynamics. Compact cameras replace Rear-view mirrors on some production cars; door handles are recessed on some relatively expensive models. Tesla products are no exception in this sense.

According to Electrek, Elon Musk went even further in his quest to defeat the automotive industry’s atavisms. He told Twitter followers that the Cybertruck pickup truck’s production version, which is being prepared for demonstration in the second quarter, will lose its door handles. Fans of modifications have implemented similar solutions earlier, but production cars have still not been in a hurry to get rid of door handles. Elon Musk did not provide details, but it can be assumed that unlocking the doors and opening them to a small initial angle in a Tesla pickup will be facilitated by a combination of a touch sensor and an electric closer. An early prototype of the Cybertruck featured Tesla’s traditional retractable handles.

In fact, on Tesla Model X crossovers, similar capabilities have already been implemented – the owners of expensive configurations did not need to pull the door handle every time since the door opened slightly after pressing the recessed handle. Crossover owners can also close and open the front doors by pressing a button on the key fob or the touchscreen display of an electric vehicle’s central infotainment system. In the latter case, the user must be in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
