The upcoming Core i5-11400 was up to 46% more productive than its predecessor in SiSoftware tests

In March 2021, Intel plans to introduce a new generation of desktop processors called Rocket Lake-S. Gradually upcoming new items are overgrown with details. This time, the SiSoftware benchmark database found a record of testing the mid-range Core i5-11400 processor.

According to the test, this processor has six cores and twelve threads. The base clock speed of the tested Core i5-11400 sample was 2.6 GHz, and the maximum frequency in automatic overclocking was 4.4 GHz. Note that the current Core i5-10400 has frequencies of 2.9 and 4.3 GHz, respectively, that is, the base frequency of the new product will be lower, but the maximum one will be higher.

Each core has 512 KB of L2 cache, and all cores together can use 12 MB of shared L3 cache. Compared to its predecessor, the volume of the third-level cache has not changed, but the volume of the second-level cache has doubled – the Core i5-10400 has 256 KB of L2 cache per core.

The performance of the chip in multimedia tasks, cryptography, as well as financial and scientific analysis is assessed by the benchmark as good or excellent. According to the table above, the performance gain of the Core i5-11400 over the Core i5-10400, depending on the tests, ranged from 6.24% to 46.27%, which is quite impressive.

The processor was tested on the ECS H510H6-M7 motherboard built on the upcoming entry-level Intel H510 system logic. Recall that motherboards based on Intel 500 series chipsets will receive the already familiar LGA 1200 processor socket, but will be able to offer full support for PCIe 4.0, which will be endowed with Rocket Lake-S processors.
