The upgraded Tesla Model 3 was faster than the Porsche 991 and set a record for one of the US race tracks

Tesla’s professional electric car tuning team, Unplugged Performance, has built an electric racing car based on the Tesla Model 3 Performance and has already achieved a record result. The Unplugged Performance team is now preparing to take part in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race on the rise of Pikes Peak in the United States.

The new Tesla Model 3 Ascension from Unplugged Performance set its debut at Buttonwillow with a record-breaking achievement, breaking the track in 1: 54.266 and breaking the previous record set by the Porsche 991 GT3 RS sports car.

It took the Unplugged Performance designers just seven days to transform the Model 3 Performance into a race car, although it underwent a number of performance enhancements. In particular, new wheels were installed, tires, suspension, and brakes were replaced. The engineers also had to work with the body to improve its aerodynamic properties.

Judging by the photos, the designers did not have enough time to make the car aesthetically more attractive, but it is quite functional.

Here you can watch a video of the record run made with a GoPro camera inside the car:

Next month, the Unplugged Performance team will try to set new records in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
