Thomas Haden Church discusses the buzz surrounding the potential of another Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film and the exciting prospect of a cameo appearance

If Tobey Maguire takes the lead in “Spider-Man 4,” fans can expect Thomas Haden Church to make a comeback as Sandman, reprising his role as Flint Marko from “Spider-Man 3” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where Tom Holland played the web-slinger.

Church teased the possibility of director Sam Raimi continuing with Maguire’s Spider-Man, expressing his interest in potentially making a cameo if that were to happen.

USA TODAY has reached out to Maguire, Raimi, and Church for any further comments on the matter.

Raimi, known for directing the Spider-Man trilogy starring Maguire, also helmed “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in 2021. He expressed openness to the idea of more Spider-Man possibilities, including team-ups, and expressed fondness for working with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

While no concrete plans have been set in motion, Raimi mentioned that he hasn’t entirely closed the door on the idea. However, he clarified that he currently doesn’t have a specific story or plan, and it remains uncertain whether Marvel would be interested in pursuing it.

Raimi expressed admiration for Tobey Maguire and his willingness to collaborate again, even in a different role, regardless of whether it’s a Spider-Man movie.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside Tom Holland, achieved immense success, grossing over $1.05 billion worldwide in its opening weekend. It became the first film to cross $1 billion since the start of the pandemic and the second-fastest film to reach this milestone, even without a release in China.
