Three GeForce RTX 30 Series Mobile Graphics Cards Available in 28 Variants for Gaming Laptops

The German resource ComputerBase has calculated how many different options for mobile video cards GeForce RTX 30 series are currently on the laptop market. It turned out 28 versions. Since the manufacturers did not follow the recommendations of NVIDIA, which encouraged them to describe in more detail the mobile Ampere used, this fact may mislead the buyers of laptops equipped with these video cards.

NVIDIA previously stated that the Max-Q branding, which was originally used to determine the power consumption of mobile video cards, has now acquired a broader meaning and implies a set of various technologies designed to increase the autonomy of laptops equipped with GeForce RTX 30 series graphics. Reviews of mobile Ampere video cards began to appear yesterday, and many reviewers have indicated which versions of certain graphics accelerators are used in certain new gaming laptops in 2021. It should be noted that, with rare exceptions, most manufacturers did not indicate this information in the description of their new products.

The information contained on the official NVIDIA website about the features of the GeForce RTX 30 series mobile graphics is essentially useless since it only reports the range of possible operating frequencies and power consumption indicators for a particular video card model. But the choice in favor of one or another variant of the characteristics, in turn, is entrusted to the laptop manufacturers. With the current state of affairs, their customers may find themselves in a situation in which the choice of a laptop equipped, for example, a GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q video card, may not be the most successful, since a model with a GeForce RTX 3060 will simply be faster due to a higher level of power consumption. and frequencies. A similar situation is expected when choosing notebooks equipped with the same graphics accelerator, but with different power consumption levels.

Before looking at the list of 28 different options for mobile GeForce RTX 30 series video cards (below), we advise you to take into account that Dynamic Boost 2.0 is not taken into account in the TGP column, where the GPU power consumption is indicated. The latter is NVIDIA technology that can add 5 to 20 watts to a graphics card’s power consumption by redistributing power from the CPU. This fact creates even more confusion in the differences between mobile video cards.
