Three more communication satellites “Gonets-M” went into space

Today, December 3, 2020, at 04:14 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1brocket with a block of three Gonets-M satellites and a spacecraft in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defense was successfully launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region.

It is reported that all pre-launch operations and launch took place as usual. At the estimated time, the space warhead, including the Fregat upper stage and the payload, separated from the third stage of the carrier.

The Gonets-M spacecraft will become part of the Gonets-D1M multifunctional personal satellite communications system (MSPSS). These satellites provide data transmission for stationary and mobile objects in areas with incomplete or no coverage of terrestrial communication networks.

It should be noted that in September of the outgoing year, three devices of the Gonets-M family have already been launched. Then the satellites of this series were sent into space for the first time using the Soyuz-2.1b carrier. Prior to this, they were launched into orbit on the Rokot conversion rocket.

We add that the tasks of the devices of this series include providing telephone and facsimile communications to subscribers in the radio visibility zone and transmitting messages about the location of subscriber terminals using GPS / GLONASS. In addition, the Gonets-M satellites are used for environmental and scientific monitoring.
