South Korean display and semiconductor equipment manufacturer APS Holdings announced the creation of tiny OLEDoS (OLED-on-silicon) displays with a density of 3000 pixels per inch, according to IT Home.

About a year ago, the company developed a 1000 ppi OLEDoS screen, but now the resolution has been significantly increased. OLEDoS technology allows you to mark the OLED screen directly on silicon wafers. Similar solutions are being developed for augmented and virtual reality devices.

Unlike OLED displays based on glass and polyimide substrates, OLEDoS uses silicon wafer-based CMOS substrates, which are used in the manufacture of chips and image sensors. Such screens are very thin and light, while they differ in the uniformity of the characteristics of each pixel.

In addition, it became known that APS Holdings is seeking to increase the resolution of OLEDoS screens, raising the density to 4000 pixels per inch. This is part of a project supported by the South Korean government to develop prototype augmented reality glasses with 4000 ppi screens. Such devices should appear by 2024.
