The height will be only 30 km
Mercedes-Maybach, together with a startup called Space Perspective, made an unusual announcement of a program in which six people will be able to rise to an altitude of more than 30 km, with maximum comfort.
NASA claims that space begins at an altitude of 100 km, so you can’t call it a journey into space. The flights will be carried out in a sealed capsule, which is attached to a huge balloon powered by hydrogen. It will be able to climb at a maximum speed of 22.5 km/h. The developers have confirmed that each trip will take about 6 hours, including 2 hours for ascent and 2 hours for descent.
The Maybach EQS will become the official vehicle of the Space Perspective program. Space Perspective travel will be carbon neutral and “completely silent,” says founder and CEO Jane Poynter.
To space without spacesuits, with maximum comfort a bar, and a bathroom.
“We’re going to send all of us into space, but in a very different way than you might have imagined,” Poynter says. “There are no rockets involved, no high G-forces, no spacesuits—nothing like that.” Instead, we use a hot air balloon that gently floats people into space for that quintessential astronaut experience.”
Inside, the Space Perspective capsule looks like a luxury SUV, with six lounge-like seats facing huge windows that spaceships don’t have. There is a bar, plants, and a bathroom. The interior was designed by Space Perspective. In the future, Maybach plans to take part in the interior design of the capsule.
The first Space Perspective mission is scheduled to launch in 2024, but testing is currently underway. The price per seat is $125,000. More than 1,650 people have already purchased tickets.
