Production grew by a third in a year
Toyota announced that its vehicle production hit a new record high in May with more than 847,000 vehicles. This is 33.4% more than it was in May last year.
Domestic production in Japan was 248,287 vehicles, up 72.2% year on year. Foreign production amounted to 598,713 vehicles.
In May, Toyota’s global sales reached 838,478 vehicles, up 10.1% year on year. Domestic sales in Japan were 116,954 vehicles, up 35.1% year-over-year. Overseas sales were 721,524 vehicles, up 6.9% year on year. In addition, Toyota Motor exported 141,774 vehicles in May, up 46.7% from a year earlier.

Toyota said production in China fell due to tightening Chinese exhaust emission regulations, but production in North America and Europe rebounded as semiconductor shortages eased.
In mid-June, Toyota announced that it would start selling electric vehicles with next-generation batteries in 2026.
