Toshiba increased shipments by 52.5% for the quarter, but it is only the third
Analytical company Trendfocus has prepared the next quarterly report on the state of the HDD market. It refers to the third quarter of the current year.
Trendfocus Names HDD Market Leader
In total, 63.31 million drives were shipped during the reporting period. This is 7.7% more than in the previous quarter, which suggests that the market is recovering. By the way, if you calculate the information volume, the drives shipped for the quarter are in total capable of accommodating 247.36 EB (exabytes, 10 18 bytes).
The market leader is Seagate. This company shipped 25.82 million hard drives for the quarter with a total volume of 114.48 EB. The indicated volume of deliveries is 1% less than in the previous quarter. It corresponds to 40.8% of the market.
The second place is taken by WDC. This manufacturer in quarterly terms reduced shipments by 0.9%, to 22.93 million units. At the end of the quarter, WDC owns 36.2% of the market.
In third place is Toshiba, which suspended HDD production in the first quarter due to the pandemic. In the past quarter, the Japanese manufacturer increased its output by 52.5%, to 14.56 million units. This allowed him to occupy 23.0% of the market.
The distribution by segments is as follows: corporate HDDs occupy 24.9% of the market, models for desktop systems – 21.0%, for mobile systems – 34.5%. The rest is for consumer electronics storage.
