This is reported by DigiTimes, citing revelations from TSMC representatives at a recent technology symposium. Next year, a research center will begin to function, which will prepare the company and its customers to master 2nm technology. It will be located near the headquarters of TSMC in the Taiwanese city of Hsinchu. An enterprise for the production of 2-nm products will also be built there, a land plot has already been allocated for it.

Tellingly, TSMC will master the next stages of lithography by the efforts of enterprises in the southern part of Taiwan, where 5-nm and 3-nm products will be produced. Even empty workshops of foreign enterprises, bought by TSMC for subsequent re-profiling for their own needs, will be used for production buildings. Thus, within the framework of 2nm technology, production will be concentrated in the immediate vicinity of a specialized research center and the company’s headquarters in the northwestern part of the island.

Taiwanese media also note that one of TSMC’s large customers has already started cooperation with the company in the development of 2nm technology. The name of the client company has not been specified, but it can be assumed that it will be Apple, which generates a significant part of TSMC’s revenue and always tries to get access to the advanced technological processes first. Huawei’s subsidiary, HiSilicon, will not be able to compete with it if US sanctions remain.
