TSMC outperforms Samsung and becomes the largest semiconductor manufacturer

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has grown to become the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer. This is reported by Internet sources, citing data from TrendForce.

Recall that TSMC is a contract manufacturer of semiconductor products. Among the customers of the Taiwanese giant are Apple, Broadcom, HiSilicon, MediaTek, Huawei, Realtek, Conexant, Marvell, etc.

TSMC reached NT $ 370 (US $ 12.56) last week. As a result, the market capitalization of the contract manufacturer was $ 313 billion. This allowed the company to bypass Samsung ($ 261 billion) and NVIDIA ($ 257.7 billion).

Moreover, in the second quarter, TSMC occupied 51.9% of the semiconductor industry. For comparison: Samsung’s share was 18.8%.

The success of TSMC is quite natural. The company receives a large number of orders from developers of various products, including mobile processors for smartphones with support for fifth-generation 5G cellular communications. In addition, TSMC does not stop to improve technological processes.

TSMC’s revenue in the second quarter of this year increased by 34.1% – to $ 10.38 billion. In the third quarter of 2020, revenue is projected in the range from $ 11.2 to $ 11.5 billion.

Capital expenditures of TSMC at the end of the current year should be from $ 15 to $ 16 billion. The lion’s share of this money will be spent on mastering new lithographic technologies and building new production lines for them.
