If you do not register a smartphone within 120 days, it will be blocked
Since July 8, Turkey has increased the tax on the registration of foreign smartphones three times – up to 20,000 Turkish liras or 71 thousand rubles, as reported by Tinkoff Journal.
All entrants must register a mobile device purchased abroad within 120 days, otherwise it will be blocked. The authorities will block the GSM or WCDMA module that provides network connectivity. As a result, the smartphone will not be able to receive calls, SMS messages and connect to the mobile Internet.
Turkish smartphone registration tax tripled
In Turkey, the phone is tracked by IMEI, which enters the Turkish Information Technology and Communications Authority database as soon as the subscriber connects to a cell tower in the country.
Until July 8, the telephone registration tax was 6,091 Turkish lira, or about 21,000 rubles, and in 2022, it was equal to 2,732 Turkish liras, or about 10,000 rubles.
