Uber will no longer allow ordering a taxi without a selfie in a medical mask

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Uber has been requiring all passengers to wear medical masks when traveling since early May, but now it is likely that the presence of a mask on the face will also have to be proved with selfies. The company today announced that it is introducing a feature into its taxi ordering app that will allow passengers to take such selfies.

However, passengers will not need to take a masked photo each time they call an Uber taxi. The scheme will be as follows: if the driver informs the service that the passenger has not put on a mask, then he will be included in a certain “blacklist” and will not be able to travel the next time until he is photographed with a medical mask on his face. The application will automatically recognize the presence of a mask, and then allow the order of the car. As for the drivers, they have to take a selfie with a mask before each going on the line since May.

Commenting on the upcoming innovation, Uber Security Chief Sachin Kansal Sachin Kansal said: “We strongly believe that responsibility is a two-way street. Therefore, we are extending this technology to passengers

Over the past few months, Uber has significantly tightened security measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For example, in the service application, drivers and passengers fill out a certain checklist, which contains items such as wearing a mask, driving with open windows, and the absence of a passenger in the front seat. A driver or passenger can cancel a trip without penalties if one of them does not follow safety rules during a pandemic.
