Ubisoft begins to investigate the incident with the leakage of 560 GB of source code for Watch Dogs: Legion

Recently, the French publisher Ubisoft faced big problems: the hacker group Egregor managed to steal the source code of Watch Dogs: Legion , 560 GB in size, from the company . The cybercriminals uploaded all the received files to torrent trackers. The publication Eurogamer decided to take comment from Ubisoft about the situation and get a quick response.

The publisher said, “We are aware of the [hacker] group’s statement and are currently investigating a potential data security incident . ” The Watch Dogs: Legion source code leak could have happened for various reasons. For example, hackers have been able to take advantage of a security breach in a publisher and steal data. Or, the files were obtained during their transfer between the creators, which is quite likely in an environment where, due to the coronavirus pandemic, many developers work from home.

As a reminder, access to the source code for Watch Dogs: Legion will certainly come in handy for modders and pirates. The former will be able to further optimize the PC version of the game and provide it with interesting modifications, and the latter will be able to hack in order to put the project in free access.

Watch Dogs: Legion was released on October 29, 2020 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Later, there will be versions of the game for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5.
