Ubisoft removed blood effects from Japanese version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but forgot to warn about it

Ubisoft removed blood effects from Japanese version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but forgot to warn about it

The Japanese division of the Ubisoft publishing house in its official blog apologized to the players for the situation with censorship in the regional version of the Scandinavian action game  Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

It all started with the October presentation of UBIDAY 2020 Online, at which Ubisoft representatives told how the Japanese edition of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla would differ from the international one.

Among the elements censored in the country were especially cruel (torture, beheadings, demonstration of internal organs) and explicit scenes (showing women with a naked torso).

As it turned out after the release, the Japanese version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla remained without blood effects, despite the presence in the settings of the option to enable its display.

One part of the players took this feature of the local edition of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as a bug, while the other began to leave negative reviews on Amazon, accusing Ubisoft of lying.

Ubisoft Japan explained the situation by the fact that the abandonment of the effects of blood was necessary for the game to get an age rating in Japan. The company clarified that the decision was made after consultation with the “relevant organization”.

The Japanese rating committee CERO denied any connection with the publisher on this issue, and Ubisoft Japan had to offer a “sincere apology. ” The source of the problem, as it turned out, lies “within the company”.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was released on November 10 on PC (Uplay, Epic Games Store), PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and on November 12 it reached PS5. Earlier it became known that the game demonstrated the most successful launch in the history of the series.

Based on the results of testing versions of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for next-generation consoles, Digital Foundry experts concluded that the project works best on the PlayStation 5 of the analyzed systems.
