Ubisoft’s “breakout” Star Wars game will have to wait – development has just begun

In January, Lucasfilm Games agreed with Ubisoft to develop an open-world game set in the Star Wars universe. As it turned out, its release will take place soon. The fact that production is at an early stage, the head of the French company Yves Guillemot clarified during the last meeting with investors.

Developed by the Swedish studio Massive Entertainment, known for the series The Division. The head assured that the production of the game would not interfere with the development of the latter. “Massive is a big studio, ” he said. ” Plus, she’s partnered with many other teams around the world, so you’ll hear news about The Division this year and next.”

According to Guillemot, the studio uses “its most advanced technology, including the Snowdrop engine, to create a disruptive Star Wars adventure.” Snowdrop is at the heart of Tom Clancy’s The Division, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and another upcoming Massive game, a project based on James Cameron’s film Avatar, slated for release before April 2023.

Guillemot also mentioned that recruiting is ongoing for the development team. “Many people want to be on this adventure, ” he said. There are currently open vacancies for programmers, animators, artists, designers, senior screenwriters, and junior producers.

Previously, the creative director of the as-yet-unnamed project, Julian Gerighty, noted that the developers at Ubisoft Massive love the Star Wars universe and strive to create a game worthy of the franchise’s glory. In his words, it will be able to attract both longtime fans and newcomers and will be “an exciting and outstanding adventure that will stay with fans for years to come

Mysterious Massive is the first adaptation of Star Wars in a long time that Electronic Arts is not involved with. The American company has had the exclusive right to develop film franchise projects since 2013. At the time of the contract’s conclusion, it was reported that the license would be valid for ten years. In January, the public relations director for Electronic Arts, Andy McNamara (Andy McNamara), said that the agreement’s terms remain in force. This probably means that Massive will not release until 2023 at the earliest. Ubisoft is not yet ready to announce the release date.
