UK charts: Animal Crossing stayed at number one, and Nintendo left no chance to competitors
The Games Industry portal has shared information on sales of retail editions of games in the UK from 3 to 9 January 2021. In the absence of new releases, Nintendo rules the ball.
As in the previous week, Animal Crossing: New Horizons topped the rating. The peaceful hit Nintendo lost 47% to its previous result, but similar sales drops at the beginning of the year are common.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe climbed to second place, despite a 43 per cent drop in performance, and Just Dance 2021 took third place – the game is available on all major platforms, but 90% of sales in the region come from Nintendo Switch.
In total, the top 40 found a place for one and a half dozen exclusives for the hybrid Nintendo console, including Ring Fit Adventure at the sixth line, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe at 9th and Super Mario 3D All-Stars at 11th.
Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 is doing worse in UK retail. For the week, sales of the role-playing action movie CD Projekt RED decreased by 59%, in connection with which the project has already dropped to 20th place.
Such a lull is likely to last at least until the end of the month. The only major release in the coming weeks is Hitman 3. The final chapter of the newest trilogy about the adventures of Agent 47 will hit stores on January 20.
In total, according to the results of the reporting period, more than 260 thousand boxed versions of games were sold in the UK – a third more than in the same period of time in 2020.
