The release of DP4 was not originally part of the plan, so the company changed the schedule for other versions
Earlier this year, Google unveiled its Android 11 release plan, including developer and beta versions. After releasing three preliminary versions for developers, the company decided to release another Developer Preview version (DP4).
An unexpected version of Android 11 released. OS release plan changed
After the release of DP1, DP2, and DP3, it was expected that the company will release the first beta version, but instead, Google will release DP4. The release of DP4 was not originally part of the plan, so the company changed the schedule for other versions. The company said it decided to add some extra time to test Android 11.
Android version 11 DP4 is focused on increasing productivity and iterative improvements. The problem with the location service icon has been fixed; it will no longer appear in the status bar when the service is not in use. The company also fixed an issue that caused status bar icons to not work on some devices.
The company has confirmed that before the release of the stable version of Android 11 there will be three beta versions:
- Beta 1 in June: final API SDK and NDK, the ability to publish applications on Google Play
- Beta 2 in July: the operating system should work stably
- Beta 3 in August: latest version before final
Android 11 Developer Preview 4 is available for Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4 XL.
