Update notifications from the Play Store stopped working on some Android smartphones
According to online sources, on Pixel smartphones and some other Android devices, the function of notifications about new updates for applications from the Play Store has stopped working. The source says that Google cannot quickly fix this error or is in no hurry to do it.
When Google announced last year its decision to turn off notifications of incoming updates for Android apps, not all users were happy. Eventually, a third-party solution came up that implemented this feature, after which Google returned notifications as an additional Android option, which is in a deactivated state by default. It seems that at present, this option has ceased to work correctly on various devices running the Google software platform.
According to reports, when trying to activate update notifications on Pixel smartphones, it simply fails to move the slider to the appropriate position. Simply put, the option continues to be disabled, even when the user tries to change it. The source says that activating the mentioned option has been tested on several smartphones from other manufacturers. And although you can enable the corresponding option there, notifications of updates are not received. In the list of update categories in the Play Store, activation of this function is possible, but the changes made are not saved since when you reopen this menu, notifications become inactive again.
At the moment, it is not known what could be associated with the occurrence of this failure. There were no comments from Google representatives on this issue.
