Updated set-top box Apple TV will be released in two versions with different processors and a new controller

Rumors have been circulating on the web for some time that Apple is working on updated models of the Apple TV set-top box. Today, an insider hiding under the nickname Fudge, who has repeatedly become the source of reliable leaks, has shed light on some of the features of the upcoming device.

In his post, Fudge claims that Apple will introduce the new console in two versions. The more affordable one will be based on the rather old A12 processor (used in the 2018 iPhone), and the “advanced” version will be based on the latest A14X chip. In addition, in his post, he claims that the Californian tech giant is developing a new controller to control the device.

Apple is mentioned to be working with developers to bring console-level games to Apple Arcade. Some of them can only be run on devices with the A13 processor and newer, so only the older model of the updated set-top box can be used to access them.

Recall that the rumors that Apple is preparing a new TV box with an A12 processor began to appear back in February when references to it were found in the code of the iOS 13.4 beta. John Prosser previously suggested that the new Apple TV will receive the A12X chipset. However, reliable sources have also hinted at an upcoming launch of the A14 box.

The Apple A14 Bionic chipset was unveiled alongside the updated iPad Air during September’s Time Flies event. It is assumed that all smartphones of the iPhone 12 series will be based on the same processor.
