Valve has not forgotten about Left 4 Dead 2: the game will soon receive a major content update

In July of this year, it turned out that Valve had once worked on Left 4 Dead 3, but abandoned the project due to the incompleteness of the Source 2 engine. Whether the company plans to return to it is unknown, but the studio is not going to abandon Left 4 Dead 2 yet. … The developers have announced the first major official update of The Last Stand in several years.

The Last Stand is a map with a beacon from the first Left 4 Dead, created specifically for the survival mode and available only in it. Valve transferred a lot of content from the original to the second part, but for some reason, this arena was ignored. Fans recently released a modification to the Steam Workshop with The Last Stand for Left 4 Dead 2. Now Valve has decided to add it to the game as part of an official update.

A teaser for the update appeared on modder JAiZ’s YouTube channel, which raised questions from players. However, Valve soon officially confirmed the preparation of the patch. The teaser description contains the words “made by the community for the community”, but there are no details about the content. Fans speculate that the supplement will go beyond just one card and bring in a whole new campaign, but that’s just speculation so far. They promise to publish fresh information “soon”.

The announcement did not come as a surprise: earlier rumors about a large portion of new content for Left 4 Dead 2 spread across the web. They were sourced from Tyler McVicker, author of the famous Valve News Network. Back in June, the developers began updating the private version of Left 4 Dead 2 for internal purposes and testing the mysterious map. In a new video, McVicker emphasized that the release of the update could “herald a new chapter in the history of Valve,” which once stopped creating content with members of the fan community.

In August, other old games of the company received updates – Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike 1.6, and the original Half-Life. They fixed bugs and some other technical problems.

Left 4 Dead 2 was released in November 2009 on PC and Xbox 360.

Valve’s newest game, Half-Life: Alyx, was released on March 23, 2020. The shooter received very high ratings from the press: with 93 points out of 100 possible, it is ranked third in the list of the best games of the year according to Metacritic. Official sales figures were not disclosed, but it is known that on the day of release, Half-Life: Alyx had 43 thousand Steam users at the same time.
