You can dock windows on top of the game and even watch movies
Valve has released a new beta version of the Steam client, the digital distribution platform for computer games. The test update brings quite a lot of improvements, improvements and new features.
One of the most noticeable changes is the redesigned in-game overlay – the interface that appears on top of the game. In this update, the developers have redesigned the interface from the ground up, adding several new features and expanding the customization options. The developers said:
The new toolbar will give you access to everything you need in the middle of the game, whether it’s chats with friends, achievement progress, guides, game discussions, the browser and more. We have selected a few windows that are displayed by default, but you can always customize the overlay for yourself and choose what you want to see in it. The overlay settings are saved when you change games and you can choose to display the toolbar as icons or as a list.
The “About” page will tell you everything that has happened since the last launch, including the progress of achievements, the list of friends who play this game, the best guides, news, and so on.
Valve has released a Steam update: a completely redesigned overlay, and more
Also appeared “Notes” with text formatting and the ability to keep several different notes about the game. “Notes” are available even offline, are tied to specific games and are synchronized between all computers where a Steam account is used. “Notes” can be found in the game’s overlay and on its page in the library.
Another new feature is the ability to pin windows from an overlay so that they appear on top of the game. The contents of windows are fixed – without a title field and other interface elements, you can adjust the degree of transparency. So you can even watch movies while playing.
In addition, notifications, a screenshot manager, and much more have become more convenient. As the developers note, some major changes are invisible to the “naked eye”: a lot of work has been done on the common code for the Steam client, Big Picture mode, and the Steam Deck software.
