Video: a blogger gave the heroes of Mafia: Definitive Edition faces from the original – it turned out scary

Prior to the release of  Mafia: Definitive Edition,  Hangar13 was criticized for changing the look of its characters. Then the developers said that the actors from the original Mafia had long changed their faces and voices, so they took such a step. And now the author of the YouTube channel MrFace tried to imagine what the characters would look like in the updated version with the faces from the original. He took advantage of DeepFake technology and demonstrated the result. It turned out creepy.

In the current reality, the appearance of the characters from the original Mafia looks too outdated. During conversations, their lips barely move, and their faces do not convey any emotion. The eyes look at one point and often past the interlocutor. In the case of Don Salieri, these shortcomings are not yet so noticeable. But when you look at the main character Thomas Angelo or his friend Paulie, you can feel the effect of the “ominous valley”.

Recall: the first Mafia was released in 2002 on the PC, and in 2004 it reached the PS2 and Xbox. Its remake hit store shelves on September 25, 2020, and appeared on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.
