Video: Dynasty Warriors presented for new consoles and smartphones
On the last day of Tokyo Game Show 2020, Koei Tecmo hosted a special broadcast for the Dynasty Warriors series, with one of the most notable announcements being Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires.
The broadcast was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dynasty Warriors series (in Japan – Shin Sangoku Musou), and its producer Akihiro Suzuki also participated. So the lion’s share of the show was devoted to nostalgia, looking back, reading messages from fans, and so on.
The first announced game was a mobile project called Shin Sangoku Musou, which will be released on iOS and Android in Japan (the appearance in the West has not yet been reported). It will be an action movie for the 20th anniversary of the series. New illustrations and hero costumes will appear in the game. The latter will not only change the appearance of the characters but also the characteristics, acting as equipment.
A completely new and original storyline for the mobile Dynasty Warriors is promised. New heroes can be unlocked, and they will differ in rarity. The project’s Twitter channel was launched, and pre-registration for participation in the closed beta testing began.
The description of the project on the official website reads like this: “Experience the further development of Dynasty Warriors on your smartphone! Numerous heroes that have already appeared in the series will reappear. The project supports vertical screen orientation for comfortable one-handed play. You can also team up or fight with other players – enjoy all that the action in the genre “one against a thousand” at the next level. “
The second was presented by the more ambitious Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires (in Japan – Shin Sangoku Musou 8 Empires), which will be released in early 2021 on PC (on Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, Nintendo Switch, as well as on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. Producer Akihiro Suzuki explained that Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires is the first game in the series in 6 years to be released as a spin-off of Empires.
It will have updated visuals, improved gameplay, and country management. The player will still be able to customize their avatar using the updated editor. The producer noted that due to COVID-19, the company was somewhat delayed with the announcement and is now pleased to present Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires. The game will not offer an open world, unlike its predecessor, but will concentrate on large-scale battles.
The official website describes Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires as follows: “By combining Dynasty Warriors’ distinctive one-against-a-thousand battles with strategic elements, including commanding squads, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires dispatches players to conquer ancient China with sword and strategy. Powerful siege battles allow commanders to deploy units to capture such strategic points on the map as castles. “
