GameSpot reporters, within the framework of their irregular column Potato Mode, reduced the level of Death Stranding graphics to values not provided by the developers.

As with most modern games, even at the lowest settings, the PC version of Kojima Productions’ experimental action looks decent, except for the ground texture and lack of anti-aliasing.

GameSpot managed to achieve the cherished level of “potatoes” thanks to the NVIDIA Profile Inspector program in general and the change in the texture filtering parameter in particular.

As a result of the manipulations carried out by journalists, the characters of Death Stranding lost their pupils (and some with their hair), the landscape lost detail, grass, and in certain places also textures.

Previously, in “potato” mode, GameSpot employees have already launched Half-Life: Alyx ( video ), Mortal Kombat 11 ( video ), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice ( video ), Red Dead Redemption 2 ( video ) and Apex Legends ( video ).

“Potato” settings are not the only thing that can change the graphics of Death Stranding beyond recognition. This was personally verified by Kotaku employee Chris Person, who did not update the drivers for his NVIDIA graphics card for the sake of the game.

The PC version of Death Stranding was released on July 14 this year simultaneously on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Less than a day later, the modder looked between the protagonist’s legs – nothing interesting, however, was found there.
