Vivo has created an advanced smartphone image sensor that should shoot well in the dark

Chinese company Vivo, one of the world’s largest smartphone suppliers, has announced a new image sensor for cameras that integrate into mobile devices.

We are talking about a sensor made using RGBW technology (Red, Green, Blue, White). Traditional sensors use RGB cells with three types of light-sensitive elements – red, green, and blue, which are covered with appropriate light filters. RGBW products add white photodiodes without filters. This technology reduces light loss and improves the quality of the generated images.

It is claimed that the new Vivo allows for a 160% increase in sensitivity compared to traditional sensors. In addition, the luminous flux is significantly increased. All this provides the opportunity to significantly improve shooting results in various conditions, especially when there is a lack of lighting.

Unfortunately, Vivo hasn’t revealed other specs for its advanced sensor just yet. But it is noted that the first smartphones equipped with cameras based on this product will be released closer to the middle of next year.
