Volkswagen to compete with Tesla for China with new ID.4 Crozz and ID.4 X electric vehicles

Volkswagen (VW) unveiled two versions of the ID.4 electric crossover, the ID.4 Crozz, and the ID.4 X, in China on Tuesday, battling American automaker Tesla in the world’s largest auto market.

Both models will be produced in China. The ID.4 Crozz will be handled by the German automaker’s joint venture with FAW Group, while its joint venture with SAIC Motor will produce the ID.4 X. This is made possible by the company’s $ 2 billion investment in the production and sale of electric vehicles in China. which the company reported in May this year.

These models mark the beginning of Volkswagen’s serious advancement in the electric vehicle market in China. At the last presentation of new products, it was announced that they have a range of more than 400 km and will receive software updates wirelessly.

Volkswagen Group China CEO Stephan Woellenstein said Volkswagen plans to launch eight models of ID family electric vehicles in China 2023 in 2023.

However, the company has not yet announced the price of new products. During the presentation, it was only said that the starting price of crossovers, which are larger than the Tesla Model 3 sedan produced in China, will be less than 250,000 yuan ($ 37,450), taking into account subsidies.

The starting price for the Model 3 sedan in China is currently 249,900 yuan (about $ 37,300) after subsidies.
