The German carmaker will follow the lead of Apple and Tesla

Volkswagen will not rely on public computers for its self-driving cars. According to the source, the head of the company Herbert Diess (Herbert Diess) told in an interview with Handelsblatt that VW will develop its own high-performance processors for self-driving vehicles. According to Diess, it is a matter of creating the best possible hardware. Like Apple and Tesla, which develop processors for their core products in-house, VW expects to gain a competitive edge through this.

VW plans to develop its own processors for self-driving cars

The automaker does not plan to produce microcircuits on its own, limiting itself to the possession of the corresponding patents. Cariad’s software division will be expanded to provide the intelligence it needs.

Given that the company has no plans to launch self-driving cars before 2025, it will have to wait a bit to see the results of VW’s processor development efforts.
