WhatsApp may have a new option for disappearing messages
The disappearing messages feature of Facebook’s WhatsApp messenger may soon be adding a new option. According to the Twitter account WABetaInfo, which publishes news related to the work of the messenger and its new functions, the developers are now testing the option to delete messages within 24 hours from the date of publication.
Currently, disappearing messages are removed from chat within 7 days. WABetaInfo reported that this feature has been in development for about a month. Although the screenshot uploaded to the site shows that it is being tested only on the iPhone, the option will most likely be available on the Android platform. Deleting within 7 days will continue as an option, although it’s unclear if the new option will be available to group moderators.
The timing of the new WhatsApp option for disappearing messages is not yet known. When WhatsApp launched the feature last year, the company said the message deletion timeline would start at seven days to ensure that conversations aren’t kept indefinitely while still keeping the conversation going. This suggests that the developers of WhatsApp already had plans to expand the number of options for deleting messages.
