WhatsApp, Multi-device function coming soon. What it is, how it works and when it will arrive on the smartphone

WhatsApp is preparing to release a new feature that is highly anticipated by users: the ability to use the same account on multiple devices. We have been talking about this new tool for almost a year, and now it seems that the hour of release has almost arrived, at least in the beta version of the application. In recent weeks, in fact, rumours have increased about how the new tool will work and how it will be used.

Let’s start, however, from the name. WhatsApp update seems to have opted for “Multidevice”, but before the official release, it may decide to change it, as done in the past for other tools. In the last few hours, new information on the function has arrived, released as usual by the WaBetaInfo guys. In the new beta version of Android, the number 2.20.152, there are new screens that show how to connect a new device to your main WhatsApp account. We remember, in fact, that the purpose of the tool is to make users have only one profile on the messaging app that can be used on all the devices in their possession.

How to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices

As many of you will know at the moment, you can use your WhatsApp account on another device using only WhatsApp Web. A solution designed for the computer and badly suited to smartphones. In fact, if you have two phones, you usually have two SIM cards and therefore two WhatsApp accounts (remember that for each phone number you can create a profile on the messaging app).

This, however, creates several problems to manage the business and private conversations. For this reason, the developers have thought of a new tool that allows you to use the main WhatsApp account on multiple devices. As said, the function should be called “Multi-device” and should arrive in the coming months (for the moment it is not yet available).

In recent weeks, several rumours have emerged about its operation. In the past few days, we have spoken to you about the need to use Wi-Fi to connect your account to a new device (probably to transfer the profile backup), while today the WaBetaInfo guys, always very knowledgeable about the world of WhatsApp, have released some new information. In the code of the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, the number 2.20.152, there are images that show how the account will be connected to a new device. A new item will be added in the settings (“Linked Devices”) and inside there will be a button with the words ” Link to New Device“, In Italian” Connect a new device “. Clicking on the button will start the procedure to be followed step-by-step.

When will the new feature arrive on WhatsApp

For the moment there is no exact timing for the release. The technicians are still working and it will probably take a little longer: this is a function that changes the use of the app profoundly and many internal tests are required. Before seeing it in the beta version of WhatsApp, you will probably have to wait a few more months: for the moment the function is not available.
