As the newspaper notes, the volume of messages sent has doubled since 2014. Then the messenger was used by less than 500 million people, and about 50 billion messages were sent daily. WhatsApp now has about two billion users. 

“This year we relied on messaging more than ever. It was necessary in order to keep in touch with our loved ones and to conduct our own affairs. We are proud that WhatsApp can deliver over 100 billion messages every day, ”said Will Cathcart, Head of Service.

In mid-October, WhatsApp developers promised to add the function of audio and video calls to the desktop version of the service. The exact launch dates were not disclosed, but an anonymous source said the company is already testing them.
