WhatsApp currently requires at least Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
The WhatsApp team is preparing to launch several more innovations in the popular messenger. All of them have been spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
The thematic resource WABetaInfo drew attention to innovations. The developers are preparing a redesigned keyboard layout. Among other things, the keyboard picker has moved from the bottom of the screen to the top. Also gone is the top bar, which offers easy access to different emoji categories.
WhatsApp will soon cut support for older versions of Android
Another innovation concerns the list of supported devices. Based on the information given for WhatsApp for Android 2.23.6.17 beta, the app will no longer support devices running Android 4.4 KitKat (OS version 2013) and will require at least Android 5.0 (OS version 2014).
The current stable version of WhatsApp requires a device running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (2012 OS version) or later.
