When using two SIM cards in iPhone 12, the smartphone will not be able to work in 5G networks

Apple has long resisted the trend of using two SIM cards in one smartphone but eventually offered eSIM technology in addition to a slot for a physical SIM card. As Apple’s official documentation explains, versions of the iPhone 12 with two SIM cards will not be able to provide simultaneous information exchange at speeds inherent in 5G networks.

We are talking about the mode with the activity of both SIM-cards (virtual and physical), as explains the resource MacRumors with reference to an excerpt from a methodological guide for sales professionals of Apple products. The activity of both SIM cards will force the smartphone to switch to 4G LTE mode, and each of the SIM cards will be able to connect to these networks. However, if you refuse to use one of the cards, then the smartphone will always work in 5G mode.

Such a limitation could upset many potential buyers, but it is not yet completely clear how the company is ready to deal with it with the help of software updates. It cannot be ruled out that the problem can be solved in the future without replacing hardware components. The entire series of Apple smartphones introduced last week provides support for 5G networks. Experts believe that loyal Apple customers have postponed the purchase of a new smartphone for a long time, waiting for their appearance on sale, and therefore the demand for new iPhone models will be high enough for a period of pandemic and macroeconomic uncertainty.
