The spouse of former President Obama’s chef reached out on social media, seeking prayers after her husband’s body was recovered from a pond close to the Obamas’ Martha’s Vineyard residence.

Tafari Campbell, aged 45 and from Dumfries, Virginia, was found on Monday morning, a day after he went missing while paddleboarding on the waters of Edgartown Great Pond on Martha’s Vineyard.

Sherise Campbell shared a heartfelt message on Instagram and a photo of her late husband, expressing her broken heart and the profound impact this loss has had on their family. She requested prayers for her and their families during this difficult time. Sherise also announced that her company, Sweet Sage Baking, and Catering, would not be accepting orders due to the recent tragedy.

The former president had employed Tafari Campbell and was visiting Martha’s Vineyard when the accident occurred. Barack and Michelle Obama were not present at the estate when the incident took place.

The Obamas released a joint statement expressing their sorrow and describing Tafari as a cherished part of their family. They had invited him to stay with them after he left the White House, and over the years, he became known to them as a talented and passionate sous chef, as well as a warm and kind person who brightened their lives.

The authorities recovered Campbell’s body from the Edgartown Great Pond, about 100 feet from the shore and at a depth of approximately eight feet. Massachusetts State Police divers located the body with the help of side-scan sonar used by Massachusetts Environmental Police officers.

The incident was reported on Sunday evening when officials received a distress call about a male paddleboarder who was struggling in the water and eventually submerged near Turkeyland Cove. Unfortunately, he did not resurface. Another individual paddleboarding with Campbell witnessed the tragic event.

Tafari Campbell is survived by his wife and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin.
