The smallest Land Cruiser will be a city car with some off-road potential
In the not very distant future, the Toyota Land Cruiser line of SUVs may be replenished with a new model called Land Cruiser FJ – the company has registered the corresponding trademark in Japan.
Let us remember that at the premiere of the new Land Cruiser Prado 250, Toyota revealed the appearance of a promising compact SUV – it turned out to be very similar to the discontinued legendary original Toyota FJ Cruiser. After this, Toyota patented the name Land Hopper, then a version appeared that this would be the name of the successor to the FJ Cruiser. But just a couple of weeks ago, Toyota officially unveiled the Land Hopper – it turned out to be a tricycle . This is clearly not an SUV successor. And now Toyota’s actions suggest that the FJ Cruiser will be reborn as the Land Cruiser FJ.
Will the legendary Toyota FJ Cruiser return as the Land Cruiser FJ?
The Toyota FJ Cruiser had excellent cross-country ability due to its short wheelbase, large wheels and all-wheel drive system. It could easily go where large Land Cruisers couldn’t go. The new model will also be compact, but with full doors at the rear rather than half-doors like the FJ Cruiser. But the Land Cruiser FJ may lose its off-road capabilities, since now we are talking about a city car. Nevertheless, the Land Cruiser FJ will clearly provide better cross-country ability compared to conventional SUVs.
It is unknown when the premiere of the Land Cruiser FJ will take place, but since Toyota showed the car at the official presentation, it means that work on it is in full swing. In the meantime, we are waiting for the premiere of the new Camry – the class icon should debut next week .
