Windows 10 20H2 Preview Released: New Start, Better Navigation In Edge And A Bunch Of Cosmetic Changes

Microsoft has announced the release of a preview build of Windows 10 20H2, which is now available to Insiders using the Beta channel. We are talking about the build of Windows 10 under the number 19042.421 (KB4568831), which brings with it a lot of interesting changes.

First of all, it is worth noting the changes in the appearance of the Start menu, which has become more thoughtful and modern. The colored background under the icons in the menu and the list of applications has been replaced by a solid background. The new design works well with icons for Fluent Design-style apps such as Office or Edge, and pre-installed products like Calculator or Mail.

It is noted that the updated design of the Start menu looks good in both dark and light themes. If users want to make the Start menu more colorful, they will need to adjust their personalization settings accordingly.

The next significant change concerns the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser. Now, pressing ALT + TAB will display all open tabs in Edge. This feature will help users quickly switch between different tasks. You can completely disable this function or adjust its operation to suit your own needs in the multitasking mode settings menu.

Another innovation concerns the Edge browser and is aimed at making web browsing more efficient. In the new build of Windows 10, users will have quick access to website tabs pinned to the taskbar. All you need to do is click on the site pinned to the taskbar to see all open tabs for all running Edge windows. After that, all that remains is to select the desired tab to go to viewing web content.

The taskbar in the new build of Windows 10 will be more personalized for new users. This feature will only apply to new profiles the first time you log in. User profiles already created will not be updated.

In addition, Microsoft has made changes to how Windows notifications work. The logo of the application that sent it will now be displayed at the top of the notification that appears. By default, notifications of the “Focus of Attention” function are disabled, which can be activated in the settings menu if necessary.

Microsoft is continuing to move functionality from Control Panel to Settings. This time, the information that was previously contained in the “System” section in the “Control Panel” was sent there.

In addition, the developers have made a lot of changes and general improvements to the stability of the software platform. Windows 10 20H2 is already available for installation by members of the Insider Program.
