Windows 10 recent update leads to BSoDs and system reboots

Last month, Microsoft released the Windows 10 October 2020 Update (20H2), a functional update that mainly consisted of general fixes and performance improvements. Now it became known that after installing 20H2, some users start to experience problems, including forced system reboots and the appearance of “Blue Screen of Death” (BSoD).

Sometime after Windows 10 20H2 started spreading, users started complaining about the mentioned problems. After the developers analyzed the user requests, Microsoft acknowledged the problems.

BSOD compatibility bug reportedly appears with DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION code. The error is suspected to be due to compatibility issues with some NVMe SSDs.

Microsoft has already blocked the installation of Windows 10 20H2 update for incompatible systems. If the update is not available for installation through Windows Update, then you should not try to download it forcibly, for example, using the Media Creation Tool, as this can lead to problems. To resolve the BSoD problem, you need to uninstall the last functional update and roll back to the previous version of the operating system.

Microsoft has also acknowledged another problem. We are talking about cases when Windows 10 periodically requires you to shut down and restart the OS. The message about the need to reboot the system will appear even in cases when users have repeatedly followed the instructions and followed the OS requirements. For incompatible systems, the installation of Windows 10 20H2 is already blocked. If you encounter a similar problem, then you can solve it by uninstalling the update and rolling back the system to the previous version.
