Xbox Director: PS5, Xbox Series X and S launch lines don’t matter right now, but 2021 is about to change

Xbox Team Leader Phil Spencer was interviewed by Shack News. In it, the head shared an interesting thought regarding the starting lines of games for the next-generation consoles. According to the director, in 2020 they will not affect sales of PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S due to low shipments of devices to stores. But during the holiday period in the fall of 2021, the situation will reverse, and games will become an important factor when choosing a console.

Phil Spencer said: “I know there are journalists out there who want to write, ‘PS5 Starter Line vs. Xbox Starter Line.’ But they [consoles] are both completely sold out, so I’m not sure if the lineup at launch influenced anything, other than, perhaps, some kind of assessment in the reviews. She will not dictate which and how many consoles we will sell. The primary factor that will determine how many consoles we sell is not the competition, Halo [Infinite], or the launch lineup. This is how many devices we can release. “

“We see, ” continued Phil Spencer, “ that our pre-orders run out in a few hours, and the same situation is with a competitor. There is a lot of demand for new consoles right now, and we [Sony and Microsoft] are trying to meet it as best we can. So I think Halo Infinite coming out with the new Xbox was more important to us than the launch itself. In fact, it can be argued that the game lineup will become more important in the holiday period of 2021, because then, in terms of competition – knock on wood – both platform holders will ensure the proper supply and there will be limited demand, not limited supply
