Users of Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones report that applications that behave very strangely are detected in the MIUI 12 firmware. We are talking about automatic-start, unauthorized access, and reading information about a smartphone without user permission.
Xiaomi and Redmi users report weird app behavior in MIUI 12
Users confirm that some applications are installed on the smartphone themselves, after which they also automatically start. For example, the You Academy mobile training app scans about 25,000 photos and files on a smartphone in about ten minutes. Another Tencent TIM application launches almost seven thousand times in one hour and tries to access the address book. In addition, other popular Chinese apps like Pin Duoduo, Meitu Xiuxiu, National K Song, Honor of the King, and Sina Weibo also behave very strangely.
Frequent launch of applications can artificially increase the number of visits and application traffic to obtain a false value of active daily users. In MIUI 12, information about such activity is available to users who are worried about their privacy and permissions of these applications.
The problem of excessive collection of user information by mobile applications is quite serious. Lu Feng, deputy director of the CCID Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, said developers need to strengthen monitoring of permissions that the application requires. If the default application is trying to collect a lot of data than it needs to work, then such applications should be flagged.
