Vivo first ahead of Samsung, moving the company to third place in the smartphone market in India
If you believe the Canalys report, then the Chinese smartphone maker Vivo in the first quarter of this year shipped more smartphones in India than Samsung. Thanks to this, Vivo first overtook Samsung in the Indian market.
Xiaomi and Vivo have captured the most important smartphone market. Samsung, Realme, and Oppo close the top five
Vivo almost doubled its deliveries compared to the same period last year to 6.7 million units, capturing almost 19.9% of the market. Xiaomi remains the leading smartphone brand in the country with 10.3 million devices and 30.6% of the market.
Samsung ranks third with shipments of 6.3 million and a market share of 18.9%, followed by Realme and Oppo, which managed to ship 3.9 million and 3.5 million smartphones, respectively.
In total, about 33.5 million smartphones were shipped in the country in the first quarter of this year. Deliveries are expected to fall in the second quarter of 2020 due to the constant blockage across the country to curb the spread of coronavirus. India is the most important smartphone market for many manufacturers, where sales continue to grow, while in China the market has long been oversaturated. According to Trustdata, in the first month of this year, domestic shipments in China fell 38.9% year on year to 20.8 million units. About 6.34 million phones were sold in February. March data is unknown, but it can be seen that India and China today are about the same size of smartphone markets. Perhaps India is already ahead.
India is dominated by BBK Electronics, which owns Vivo, Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus. The combined market share of the three leading brands – Vivo, Realme, and Oppo – is 42%.
