Xiaomi ends support for four popular Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones

Xiaomi has included four popular smartphones from the Redmi and Poco brands in the End of Support (EoS) list. These devices will no longer receive any software updates, according to XiaomiUI.

Among the smartphones included in the EoS list are affordable budget models such as Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9C NFC, Poco M2 Pro, as well as the flagship Redmi K30 Ultra. They will no longer receive security patches, as well as updates to the Android operating system and the MIUI shell.

The termination of software support by the manufacturer means possible threats to the security of users and the security of user data. Unsupported devices will not receive patches for vulnerabilities that could theoretically be exploited by attackers.

Owners of older smartphones are advised to consider upgrading to more modern devices or consider using proven custom ROMs from enthusiasts that include up-to-date security patches.

The devices in the EOS list are usually two years old or older. Xiaomi typically supports its devices with software updates for two years after their release.

If you own a device that is on the EOS list, you should still be able to use it as normal. However, you will not receive any new security patches, which means that your device may be more vulnerable to malware and other security threats.
