Xiaomi introduced the new MIUI 12 firmware for smartphones

Xiaomi introduced the latest version of the Android-based operating system – MIUI 12. After passing several stages of optimization, the system received a number of new functions. Designed to meet the stringent requirements of personal data protection, MIUI 12 uses high security technologies. The latest user interface design and carefully crafted animation provide comfort when interacting with mobile devices, creating a realistic atmosphere and simplifying access to frequently used functions.

The MIUI 12 operating system provides enhanced protection for personal data and immediately informs about the potentially dangerous actions of any application, monitoring in detail. The user can find out when a particular application uses the issued permissions to access data on location, contacts, call history, microphone and storage. The entire history of the application’s actions is displayed on the screen with one click on the status of access rights. By checking application activity records, the user can easily change access settings for each of them, detecting unwanted or suspicious behavior. To further enhance user awareness, MIUI 12 adds access request notifications. Pop-up messages in the upper panel will appear every time you launch such important functions in the background, like geolocation, camera and microphone. By clicking on the notification, the user can change the access settings and stop any suspicious activity.

By providing users with enhanced control over application rights, MIUI 12 takes privacy to a whole new level. The operating system offers a wide range of options for responding to access requests from specific applications, including the condition “When using the application” and “Always notify.” Based on Android’s location monitoring, MIUI 12 goes even further by managing apps that request access to other mission-critical features. In addition to geolocation, access options are also regulated in the camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and data storage, which are available only in the “When using the application” mode. MIUI 12 also takes care of secure photo sharing,

MIUI 12 received a completely updated user interface design and improved system animation, with key effects updated at the kernel level. Mi Render Engine technology provides smooth interface reactions, and Mi Physics Engine is responsible for realistic icon trajectories, simulating the movement of real physical objects. In the new operating system, every detail reflects a new design principle, peeped out by nature itself – from animations to open and minimize programs to quickly and seamlessly switch between applications. Thanks to a completely redesigned animation, MIUI 12 surprises with naturalistic reactions and the reality of every detail.

The use of realistic visualization of system events made it possible to make the menu screen more informative and understandable: now values and parameters are perceived better due to the graphical representation. Visualization saves time and improves the comfort of interacting with a mobile device, making it more intuitive. Visualized controls also confirm the user’s presence, reflecting movement in the animation, which makes each look at the screen unique and individual.

The recently introduced Super Wallpaper feature takes space aesthetics to a new level with reconstructions of famous space landscapes based on NASA photographs. “Super wallpapers” are displayed in the off screen mode, on the main screen and on the lock screen.

MIUI 12 supports multitasking in floating window mode. When a user navigates the system using gestures, floating windows simplify the simultaneous work with several applications and eliminate the need to constantly switch between them. Floating windows can be easily moved, closed and scaled using simple gestures in the action bar. For example, when a text message arrives on a smartphone during video playback, a user can reply directly in a pop-up window without stopping playback. This greatly simplifies multitasking on mobile devices, increasing the speed and efficiency of a wide range of tasks.

MIUI 12 has improved the recently introduced screencast feature, which has turned the smartphone into a must-have tool for leading presentations. Now the user can start broadcasting documents, applications and games with one touch of the screen. Multitasking is also supported here: the broadcast window can be minimized at any time. The ability to broadcast with the screen off reduces energy consumption, and the option to hide private windows does not allow to broadcast pop-up notifications and incoming calls to external screens.

MIUI 12 supports the battery saving mode. Due to this, most energy-intensive functions will be limited in order to extend the operating time of the device when the battery is low. Calls, messages and network connections are not interrupted and will always be available.

MIUI 12 received a new improved dark mode. Thanks to the muted color palette for menus, system and third-party applications, this mode provides high visual comfort in low light conditions. When the dark mode is on, the user can choose to automatically adjust the contrast and brightness when changing the ambient light. In addition, the dark mode reduces power consumption and eye strain.

Poco Launcher Xiaomi has proven itself. Its characteristic element – “Application Menu” – has now appeared in MIUI 12. When you turn on a folder, all applications move to it, freeing up the main screen. The user can automatically group applications in folders according to their personal preferences, which allows you to find the necessary icons in just a few touches.

The initial distribution of MIUI 12 is scheduled for June 2020. The first firmware will receive smartphones Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro.
