Xiaomi launches MiCare smartphone insurance service, but so far only in China

Today, the company launched the MiCare device protection plan for Chinese smartphone owners. The service is similar to AppleCare and is designed to insure expensive smartphones in case of non-warranty breakdowns or to extend the warranty. The 549 Yuan ($ 83) MiCare plan only supports two smartphone models so far: Mi 10 and Mi 10 Supreme Edition. In the future, it will probably be expanded and extended to other countries.

Reportedly, you can purchase the MiCare plan along with the purchase of a smartphone on any of the company’s Internet resources, or buy it separately no later than seven days after the purchase of the smartphone or from the date of its activation. The purchase of MiCare, for example, guarantees significant discounts on the new model replacement program until the end of the warranty. If the owner does not want to part with the smartphone, then MiCare will allow two free replacement of the damaged screen for two years and an extended warranty for the second year.

Protecting the relatively expensive Mi 10 and Mi 10 Supreme Edition smartphones is not a bad proposition, but the same AppleCare program covers almost the entire range of Apple devices from headphones to computers. Xiaomi has a lot to learn from Apple. Perhaps, for now, Xiaomi is studying the demand for such a service and later will offer it for a much larger range of devices.
