Xiaomi is preparing to enter the Chinese automobile market and compete with the giants that have already taken their place.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that their cars will go into mass production by early 2024, and also confirmed the company’s goal to become one of the top five largest car manufacturers in the world.
According to a report by First Financial Daily, the construction of the Xiaomi car plant is divided into two phases: the first phase, covering 720,000 square meters, began in April 2022 and is expected to be completed by June 2023. The second stage is planned for 2024-2025. The plant will consist of four buildings and a state-of-the-art testing center with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles. First Financial Daily adds that the plant successfully passed inspection on June 12, and the Xiaomi car was repeatedly spotted testing in various weather conditions.

Xiaomi’s car plant in Beijing’s Yizhuang district is located on an undeveloped area bordering the Beijing Fangxindian office park and open area to the south. Currently, the company has a quiet atmosphere, minimal employee activity and muffled construction noise.
At the end of August , it became known that Xiaomi was recruiting workers for its factory in Beijing. The average salary is around $600-760 per month for an 8-hour day and five days a week.
