Full-fledged navigation for motorists has appeared in the Yandex.Maps application. They no longer need to switch to Navigator to use its basic functions. Previously, navigation had to include a separate application, which did not add any convenience at all.
Yandex.Maps will give voice prompts during a trip – about cameras, speed limits, traffic jams, overlaps, and accidents. As the developers promise, even if the application is minimized or the smartphone screen is turned off, notifications will continue to work.
The application will also show the nearest parking lots, gas stations, an alternative route, and a lane for changing lanes or exiting. In case the user already knows where to go, a new “Navigator” mode is provided – it will give hints even without a constructed route. To turn it on, you need to click on the icon on the home screen.
In addition to new functions, the navigation design in Yandex.Maps have been updated – it has been optimized for drivers. Controls appear larger, roads are contrasted, and building heights are lower. Also, you can choose the type of map – 2D or 3D.
Head of Yandex.Maps service Oleg Levchuk explained:
Many people use two applications for different urban scenarios – Maps for pedestrian routes and Navigator for automobiles. In order not to have to switch between them, we added the Navigator capabilities to Maps. At the same time, Navigator is still a standalone application, loved by most professional drivers. “
