It’s not about optimization
The story around the Xbox Series S restrictions, due to which the game Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be released on Xbox until at least the end of the year , continued. It turned out that Series S limited developers from the very beginning of the process of creating a game.
Remedy Entertainment Communications Director Thomas Puha decided to comment on a recent statement from a colleague from Larian regarding the younger Xbox console.
You have to consider the technical limitations of the Xbox Series S from the very beginning of development
I know Larian’s pain with the Series S. It’s not about “just optimizing at the end”. No-o-o. You must consider technical limitations from the very beginning of development. Nobody wants to think about it when you start making your game, when everything is possible.
That is, Series S limitations do not affect the final stages of development when it comes to optimizing the game – developers must consider the features of the console from the very beginning. That is, perhaps, in some cases, you simply have to abandon the implementation of some ideas because of the younger Microsoft console.
Recall that this does not apply to graphics. Microsoft policy implies that you cannot release the same game on Series X and Series S with different functionality, that is, with differences in gameplay. Differences in graphics are, of course, acceptable.
