Zynga Acquires Torchlight III Echtra Games
Portal Gamesindustry.biz reported that Zynga, which has long specialized in mobile games, bought Echtra Games. Since then, the latter was founded in 2016 and has managed to release only one project – Torchlight III (in early access).
On the acquisition, Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau said: “Max [Max Schaefer, founder of Echtra Games] and his Echtra Games team are responsible for some of the most legendary trends [in the gaming industry] ever were invented. They are also well versed in the action RPG genre and cross-platform development. This acquisition will help develop our iconic brands from mobile devices to PCs and consoles and help Zynga further develop its core market. ”
Guibault said Echtra Games would be partnering with NaturalMotion to create “a new unannounced cross-platform RPG .”
Recall that earlier, Zynga acquired Gram Games, Small Giant Games, Peak Games, and Rollic Games. All of these companies specialize in creating mobile games.
