An expensive device for its class and characteristics
At today’s Google I / O 2023 event, Google introduced not only the Pixel 7a smartphone , but also the Pixel Tablet. This is the ideological successor to the Nexus 7, a tablet released by Google in 2012. There have been no new Google devices on the tablet market for 11 years (you can, of course, remember the Pixel Slate in 2018, but it ran Chrome OS, not Android).
Interestingly, the Pixel Tablet was demonstrated at last year’s Google I / O conference, but it has only now come to the release of a serial product. At the same time, sales will not start soon – June 20. The price of the device is $500. But this is in the USA, and in Europe the novelty was priced at 680 euros – this is how much the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory costs. The variant with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory is priced at 800 euros.
$500 Pixel Tablet unveiled
The Pixel Tablet is built on the Tensor G2 single-chip platform, supplemented with a Titan M security chip. It received an IPS screen with a diagonal of 11 inches and a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
There are two cameras – front and back. Moreover, the modules are exactly the same – with 8-megapixel sensors, lenses with F / 2.0 aperture and support for Full HD video recording. There is a fingerprint scanner (built into the power key), three microphones and four speakers, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, support for UWB, Wi-Fi 802.11ax and Bluetooth 5.2.
The battery capacity is not reported, but Google indicates that the device works up to 12 hours in video broadcast mode. Tablet dimensions – 258 x 169 x 8.1 mm, weight – 493 grams.
