It will compete with Tesla Model S for the title of the most popular electric vehicle in its class

Lucid Motors announced the Air luxury sedan back in September, but no pricing or specs for the base version of the electric car were announced at the time. Now they are already known: the standard Air will be asked for $ 77,400, but taking into account federal subsidies, the price of the sedan for the end-user is reduced to $ 69,990.

$ 69,990 for 480 electric horses. Named the cost of the basic version of the luxury sedan Lucid Air

The top Lucid Air has a 1080 hp power plant. and accelerates to 96 km / h in just 2.5 seconds, but what about the basic version? Here, of course, everything is much simpler: one electric motor, 480 hp. and a cruising range of 653 km. For a surcharge, it will be possible to order a second electric motor and thus get an all-wheel drive. I am glad that in this case, Lucid did not save on the fast charging system: the base Air charges just as quickly (480 km of travel in 20 minutes), as well as more expensive versions. For those who order the base Lucid Air now, the company is promising three years of use for Electrify America chargers nationwide. But the only problem is that the production of such a version of the electric car will begin only in 2022, and in 2021 it will be possible to buy only more expensive versions of the sedan.

Today’s price announcement for the base Lucid Air resulted in a directive price cut for the Tesla Model S to $ 69,420. And this is, in general, good, because the consumer only benefits from such competition. Interestingly, formally, the range of the base Model S is only a little over 3 km less than the base Lucid Air. But even after today’s price cut, the Model S is $ 480 more affordable. However, something else is more important in this battle: the Model S has long been available in the US, while the base Lucid Air will be on sale in a year and a half.
